Community Hockey

Where every skill level shines

The Community Hockey Stream is the perfect fit for players of all levels, from beginners to those with more experience, aged U9 to U18. As Hockey Edmontonโ€™s most popular option to organized hockey, the Community Hockey stream offers a less intense, but equally rewarding hockey experience compared to the Elite Stream.

Our inclusive approach welcomes individuals of diverse skill levels, guaranteeing a spot for everyone, regardless of prior experience. Thanks to the Alberta One Standardized Tiering System, players can find their ideal level of competition and development within the Edmonton Federation Hockey League (EFHL).

What to expect overall with the Community Hockey experience:

  • Teams will be assembled utilizing the Alberta One Standardized Tiering System, competing citywide within the EFHL. Our players encompass a diverse range of skill levels, ensuring a place for everyone, regardless of experience. Your child can register within their appropriate age category without prior participation in specific programs (example: such as U7 Timbits or U9 prior to joining U11, etc.), as they'll be grouped with peers of similar abilities. Basic skating proficiency is expected.

  • This program emphasizes skill development tailored to the team's proficiency level, ensuring a rewarding and progressive experience for all players. From September to March, participants can anticipate over 18 games and practices, with weekends primarily reserved for ice time, complemented by weekday evening sessions.

  • Following an evaluation process spanning three or more sessions in September, tiered teams consisting of 14 to 18 players are formed. This tiering strategy aims to match players of comparable skill levels, fostering balanced competition within Hockey Edmonton and the EFHL.

  • Games take place across various locations throughout the city, while practice venues typically align with the geographical area of residence. Expect a mix of weekday evening practices and weekend games, officiated with referees and tracked scores. Most teams have designated goalies, subject to availability each season.

  • Body checking begins at U15; if you do not wish to have your child participate in body checking, they can be tiered in a Non-Body Checking team.
